The Lochsa River parallels scenic Highway 12, northeast of Lowell. The Lochsa boasts 40 rapids that rate four or above on the European rating system. With names like The Grim Reaper, Bloody Mary, Ten Pin Alley and Mile Long, your heart will be pounding by the time you reach the rapids. The whitewater season extends from May to August. Permits are not required for non-commercial floating. This is a challenging river and is recommended for persons experienced in handling whitewater.
