The Lochsa River

Lochsa (pronounced "lock-saw") means “rough water” in the Nez Pierce language. The beautiful Lochsa River is located in the mountains of North Central Idaho.

The Lochsa was included by the U.S Congress in 1968 as part of the National Wild and Scenic Rivers Act; the Lochsa and the Selway (and their tributaries) have no dams along their length, resulting in a natural, unregulated flow from spring (and summer) runoff. In late spring (mid-May to mid-June), the Lochsa River is rated as one of the world's best for continuous whitewater
